 Current Events |
|
Hello All! Here is the latest from YOUR club:
* Mother Nature didn't cooperate with us this past Saturday for our "Cruise to the Drive-In". Severe thunderstorms, and nearby tornado warnings, crossed the area in late afternoon forcing a cancellation of the event. We will look to reschedule this fun event in the near future, so stay tuned.
* We are in the peak of "Cruise Night" Season! Virtually every night there is a local gathering of cool cars and their fans to partake in. MONDAY is at Shaller's Restaurant on Edgemere Drive in Greece, TUESDAY has the Fairport Box Factory on the canal in the village AND Jim & Ralph's Restaurant on Elmgrove Rd. at Rt. 531 in Gates. WEDNESDAY is the classic cruise night at the Log Cabin Restaurant on Rt. 31F in Walworth. THURSDAY is a new (and big!) cruise at the Wegman's on Holt Rd. in Webster. FRIDAY is the cruise at the Damascus Temple on Bay Rd. in Webster. There are others to enjoy, check www.rodandpiston.com for a complete listing. Cruise nights are a great excuse to take a ride in your Z, enjoy some food and ice cream and spend time with other car nuts. If any of you decide to head out to one, send me an email and I will forward to the club.
* The books have been closed on our recent All Japanese Car Show Weekend and I am pleased to announce that we were able to donate $2500 EACH to our charities, The Rochester/Finger Lakes Eye & Tissue Donation Bank and the Rochester Breast Cancer Coalition. Thanks to the hard work of our army of volunteers and the support of all of our participants, this is a 65% increase over last year. Thanks to all of you for supporting our event and our charities. Here's hoping we can do even better in 2011!
* Four hearty ZCCR members are heading to Nashville, TN this weekend to take in the car show at the ZCCA's International Z Convention celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Z-Car. Logistics didn't permit us to show our own Zs, but myself, VP Mike Noonan, Activities Director Mike Yendrzeski and Promotions Director Mike Krenzer will be boarding the VP's Yukon ZUV for the ride. We'll take lots of pictures, look for them on the website.
* NEXT UP is our annual Birthday Picnic on AUGUST 14. Come out to help us celebrate ZCCR's 10th Birthday! The event will be held at the beautiful home of Mike Krenzer and Meg Coon in Hilton. Swimming (bring your suit!), games, food, beverage, music, ice cream and FUN FOR ALL! FREE to current members and their families. Watch for a postcard in the mail with complete information.
That's it for now! Z you on the road!

 Charity Week-End Recap |
|
Good Day All! Here is the latest from YOUR club:
* WOW! WHAT A GREAT TIME was had by all this past weekend at ZCCR's All Japanese Car Show Weekend. We had participants from PA, ON, NY, CT, AZ, MD and NJ take in the events. From the Friday evening kickoff party to the Saturday car show to the Saturday evening dinner dance to the Sunday road rally to Watkins Glen for Laps and Lunch, a STUPENDOUS time was had by all. The event is growing each year and quickly becoming a regional favorite. Thanks to the Wesbter-Fairport Elks Lodge for hosting the car show, we hope to make their venue our show site for years to come. A complete recap of the event will be in the next edition of ZCCR NEWZ and a photo gallery will be up on the website soon.
An event of this magnitude couldn't happen without the generosity of our many sponsors. Each and every one of them will be listed in our club newsletter. I would encourage you to support their business and take the time to THANK THEM for supporting ZCCR and our charities.
I also want to take the time here to thank some hard-working individuals who all teamed up to make this a wonderful event: Mike Krenzer, Meg Coon, Mike Noonan, Mike & Debbie Yendrzeski, Scott & Jan Kozlowski, Bob Anderson, Bob Mooney, Sam Hartley, Frank & Pat McGinley,, Brian & Judy Rapp, Frank Butera, Gary Guagliardo, Chas Campbell, Allan Robbins, Shawn Pritchard, Barry Brown, Tom Bork, Rick & Kathy Morgan, Steve Yendrzeski and many more others who donated their time and talents. You all were fantastic, the event couldn't have happened without you. Z people ARE the BEST!
* TONIGHT we are heading out to the Monday Night Cruise at Schallers Drive-In located at 965 Edgemere Drive in Greece. The usual music, great food, great ice cream and some of the coolest rides you can see on a hot summer night. Be there by 6:15 for prime parking.
* NEXT UP on your "local" ZCCR activities calendar is our 11th Annual Anniversary Picnic on Saturday August 14. Once again ZCCR's Mike Krenzer and Meg Coon have offered to host the event at their spacious home in Hilton. FREE to members! Food, music, games, swimming and that one-of-a-kind ZCCR hospitality! Watch your emails and for a postcard in the mail for complete details.
*ON SATURDAY AUGUST 21 we will be heading north of the border to participate in "Z FEST" hosted by our good friends in the Ontario Z Association. This is a great Z only car show that's a ton-of-fun with music, food, awards, raffles and more. Watch your emails for details.
* There are also two other events not on our "official" event schedule that many ZCCR folks may be participating in: Spencerport Canal Days Car Show- Saturday July 24 and The International Z Convention in Nashville, TN. July 28-Aug. 1 (www.zcon2010.com). Search the web for more information.
Stay tuned, stay informed, PARTICIPATE!

2009 Member of the Year |
|
Hello All!
Yesterday, ZCCR kicked off our 2010 activities with our annual Groundhog Party held at Fellows Rd. Park in Perinton. A nice crowd turned out (without Zs of course!) to warm up the winter and catch up with each other.
The 2010 Chili Cook-Off Contest had a record number of entries with Meg Coon taking home 1st place in the people's choice voting. Meg was awarded a trophy and dinner gift certificate as her 1st place prize. Quite a sampling of spicy chilis warmed up everyone!
The big event of the day was the presentation of our 2009 ZCCR Member of The Year Award, presented to the ZCCR member who duting the year gave above and beyond the call of duty to enhance the club, promote the ZCCR fellowship and as Mr. K says "Loves Cars, Loves People and Loves Life". For his long standing contributions to the club in many capacities, sometimes quietly but never unnoticed, BOB ANDERSON was selected for the award. Well deserved and congratulations to Bob!
As you may have heard, the groundhog indeed saw his shadow and predicted another 6 weeks of winter. In this part of the world that is pretty much standard fare, so no worries, Z driving season begins in April!
Pictures of yesterday's event will be posted on the website soon.
NEXT UP: HOCKEY! The Rochester Americans will host ZCCR to their game against the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday March 14 at 3:00PM. ZCCR members can enjoy great $20 center ice seats for only $7.50 per person! Tickets are sure to go fast, so order yours now! Complete information is attached.

Hot Summer Show Succeed's with a Flare |
|
July 12th, 2008: What an outstanding day! Where to begin our story about the All Japanese Classic & Import Tuner car show ... the weather; how do we spell H O T - yes it was, and Mother Nature tossed in an ever so brief sun-shower just before trophy time so we all had the opportunity to put that dust-free shine to our vehicles for the final round of judging.
Our host, Hoselton Nissan, was most gracious and accommodating and their show parking space was perfect! As host for this event they came through big the way only a quality organization can!
The Merchant Street Smokehouse BBQ was out-of-sight, pulled pork and a side for $4-bucks, now that was mmmm, mmmm good deal!
Z-girls, yep we had 'em and boy did they hold up their end of our bargain, selling a Supra-large quantity of event raffle tickets assuring a great big 50/50 pot was available. And certainly all the sponsors who had come onboard gave us a big boost; they were many and most generous!
Volunteers, words can't sufficiently well express our thanks to Mike K. for launching ZCCR on the path to initiate an All-Japanese Vehicle gathering locally - his efforts pulling together an event staff and executing the show was a labor of love and we ALL appreciate that ... ya did good Dad! As for the club’s worker-bee’s, well they were many in number and truly crucial in assuring our success.
Visitors from distant places, sure, we had them! Ontario Canada, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Maryland and many points in-between, it just wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t have brothers and sisters travel in to share stories, compete for trophies and break bread with. We had a heck of a time during the show itself, then after-hours we hit Champp's Sports Bar & Grill with a vengeance and closed out the day with great stories shared over brilliant food and even better desserts (just ask JT about his and Kim’s foot tall wedge of ice cream cake – O.M.G. that was unbelievable)!
Cars, did I mention the cars? Whoa Baby, they were spectacular! Z’s sure, Datsun’s yes, exotic’s and tuner machines – absolutely! Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Infiniti were all represented and they were a most welcome addition which boosted the excitement of our annual car show event for all participants! These fellows were the big trophy winners at the end of the day: Best in Show chosen by Hoselton Nissan: John Taddonio’s 1970 240Z 1st Place Z: Dave Lisiecki’s beautiful blue 240Z 2nd Place Z: Terry Weston’s 2003 350Z 3rd Place Z: Jimmy Kosowski and his 1979 280ZX 1st Place Non-Z: Carlos Torres’ crazy 1993 Honda Civic 2nd Place Non-Z: Kory Benson with his 1994 Nissan Hardbody pick-up 3rd Place Non-Z Al Scheuer’s 1965 Datsun 320 pick-up Best Engine: Ed Serrano’s 1973 Datsun 240Z Best Interior: Terry Weston and his 2003 350Z Best Paint: Barry Brown’s 1971 Datsun Hot Wheels 510
All that said and done, you’ll recall that giving back to our community is a mission for ZCCR, its Board of Directors and the membership overall. Saturday we presented a check for $2,000.00 to be shared by our designated charities, The Wilmot Breast Cancer Center & The Strong Liver Transplant Center and there'll be more to follow those monies once we have our show numbers totalized. Both are organizations we’ve history with and both have helped members of our club who have been impacted by health issues most of us are lucky enough to avoid – they mean something special to us!
Three Cheers for the 1st Annual event which came off so smoothly, now let’s roll-up our sleeves and start work on next years event so we can trump all the numbers and grow this venue into a regional must-do date on everyone’s 2009 summer week-end calendar!

Hagerty has News you can Use |
|
Say Friends, the folks at Hagerty Insurance publish a very nice news letter every few weeks which you can sign-up for here. The most recent edition included a fun & interesting mid-winter read.
Maybe you thought it through when laying-up your car, or maybe it never occurred to you! Mices, Mices, Mices and what to do about them!
Having had a little experience with the critters I can add one more item to the "keep 'em out" list of to-do's: CLOSE Your Windows...no point in making it easy for all Mickey's buddy's.
... from another angle ... "Spring is only '69 days away - still leaves plenty of time though for Z-mod's to be performed ... remember that you can contact any BOD member to ask for a Tech-Day" in your garage to get help with your current challenge!
Trivia Note: Only one day in the year has equal minutes of daylight & darkness - St. Patty's Day with Sunrise & Sunset both occuring at 6:05.
