Mad ZCCR Member Conquers Russia

Kangaroo
Always the Dapper-Dan, he's always a hop, skip & jump above us ... Find ZCCR member Ron Whitlock & his daughter high atop a Russian mountain range here! Then go on to see the rest of his photo's in our club gallery's! Ron, a ZCCR charter mamber, never misses an opportunity to fly the club banner while on-high, matter of fact, in total elevation achieved, the banner may have flown as high as the space shuttle in orbit by now as Ron has summited so many mountains worldwide!

Ron reports:"July 20th at 10:30am, we hit the summit of Elbrus in Russia, about 18,500', on a perfectly gorgeous day, no wind or snow and hardly a cloud anywhere. Twelve climbers including my daughter Terri, and 3 guides made it. One fellow had some problems and elected to watch us from base camp at 12,000'. Not as difficult as some of the other mts, but a very memorable time. Started at 6,500ft and hit the summit in 5 days with acclimatization climbs plus a rest day. Snow, rain or sleet every day except summit day. We all spent 3 days in St Petersburg prior to climb and 2 in Moscow after the climb. Visited lots of palaces from Peter the Great's days to Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin's tomb and the Basil Cathedral and even took in a ballet (Swan Lake) at the Russian National Ballet theater. So a very nice trip."

Welcome home Ron, we're glad to see detente is still working and you've not precipitated any major international incidents!

Very Early Datsun 240 Z commercial

Kangaroo Club PreZ John Taddonio says he's heard about this film for years.  He finally found it on the internet posted by  Lou Ann Hammond on Carlist.com ... it includes very early design footage. Those Nissan engineer's were amaZingly good with modeling clay and surpriZingly large sculpting knives, and then we see the 1960's approach to ergonomic design comfort - the new car visualiZation game sure has changed, but you have to admit - those 240Z's are outstanding feats of engineering when comparing them to other 'affordable' carZ of their era. Just this week I took a '73 Volkswagon Beetle for a spin - it was a blast but you could never hold a straight line when aiming it, and get it up over 60MPH and it was prayer-saying time, LOL!.

Watching this video you'll also take a few laps in far away Africe. then Nissan's famous John Morton steps-in to wet our American appetites for this exotic foreign car. ShaZaam Kids, you've got yourself some dy-no-mite footage here.

We thought you all might find it interesting.

This is Gonna Be GREAT !!!

Kangaroo We're all about to leap into a crisp, clean, and clearly exciting New Year - and we wish all our members & their families all the best for 2008! The club Board of Directors has been hard at work planning events that will lead us through the balance of winter, on into spring, and then soon enough launch all our Z-aficionado’s into a fabulous driving season with wonderful prospects ahead for mega-Z-time.

There'll be a new regular-meeting restaurant to serve our needs, tech-days with siZZle, special events ranging from a fabulous Z-car-show at our newest sponsor's establishment on through to a nearby National Z Convention to attend. (Might even be another spring ZCARNUTZ in LA adventure to make space for)!

Keep some room in your busy schedules for a mid-winter breakfast meet, and a special gathering with Brock Yates of Car & Driver and Cannonball Run fame, our season launching GroundHawg event, a night at the drive-in, an anniversary picnic with catered specialties, driving events galore, cruise-nights, car-shows scattered from Rochester to Buffalo to Toronto, even a week-end long trip North of the Border joining with the gang from OZC … where’s the fast ferry when we need it, LOL!

Look for the club NEWS in your mailboxes soon – once again it’s a winner, just chock full of club member stories and all kinds of special interest items.

Remember Gang, for 2008, Z-Greatest adventures lay before us, tweak those carb’s, polish those rim’s, tension those belt’s and jump aboard – we are lookin’ to Git-R-Done in fine fashion this time around !!!

Mike Noonan, ZCCR Veep, & all the BOD wish y'all a Happy Happy New Year!
