ZCCR is heading to ONTARIO CA for ZFest 2010 |
|
Hello All! Here is the latest from YOUR club:
** A great time was had by all at ZCCR's 10th birthday picnic yesterday. A BIG thank you to Mike Krenzer and Meg Coon for hosting the event at their home in Hilton. Everyone enjoyed swimming, great food, great conversation and wonderful friends. A display of our many Z-cars on the front lawn turned into an impromptu car show which actually had folks passing by stop to look at the cars! One of our founding father's and first president David Palermo had the honor of cutting the birthday cake and dedicating ZCCR's next ten years and more.
** Long time BOD member and treasurer Scott Kozlowski has informed the board that he is stepping down ZCCR treasurer. Scott cites time constraints with personal and business matters and simply cannot devote the time to the ZCCR job as he would like to. Regrettably I understand and sincerely appreciate the job that Scott has done for the club, we are better because of him. Former board member Bob Mooney has agreed to rejoin our administration and step in to the treasurers' position. We welcome back Bob and thank Scott for his dedication to the club.
** My 240Z is still in the running for Gold Eagle Inc.'s contest for their "Cool Rides Online" car of the month for August. This is a national online contest where four cars a month are chosen as finalists by Gold Eagle and voting is done by website visitors. YOU can go to their site and vote once a day. PLEASE support a Z brother and vote for my Z! Here is the link: http://www.goldeagle.com/event_marketing/coolridesonline.aspx
** UP NEXT, this Saturday August 21 we will be heading north to Brantford, Ontario to participate in the Ontario Z Owners Association's Z FEST. The Details: WHAT: Z FEST, a multi-class Z-Car only show WHEN: Saturday August 21, 2010, 9am-3pm WHERE: Brantford Nissan, Brantfod, Ontario (about a 125 mile drive) COST: $5 at the gate MISC: 1st and 2nd place for each generation/class of Z, food, raffles, music BRING: YOUR PASSPORT or PASSPORT CARD or ENHANCED DRIVERS LICENSE! (necessary to cross the borders), a chair, cooler, etc. if you wish DEPARTURE DETAILS: We will be leaving from our usual west side departure place, Brueggers Bagels, 3177 Latta Rd. in the Wegmans Plaza at Long Pond and Latta Roads in Greece. We MUST depart by 7am SHARP to make the drive to the show! Send me an email if you are coming so we know who to look for. 2010 Summer Car Show Update |
|
Here's a recap gang for our swell summer extravaganZa folks - be sure to get in on the fun - register early to secure your spot ... this is gonna be GREAT!
The Z Car Club of Rochester (ZCCR) presents the Third Annual Jonathan Krenzer Memorial All Japanese Car Show on Saturday, July 10, 2010, along with fabulous Friday & Sunday activities!
In addition to the hundreds of great cars of all Japanese marques, the show will feature a very special display of several historic Datsun/Nissan vehicles:
* 1969 Datsun 240Z HLS30-00006, the oldest Z-Car in existence. The first car to leave the factory in October 1969 for car show presentation. This is the originally green car that a model infamously sat on and dented, resulting in it being removed from the car show circuit. It was then given to Bob Sharp for racing development. The car was successfully campaigned as BSR #33 with Sharp driving and later as BSR #38 with Jim Fitzgerald at the wheel. It is now owned by Dr. Allan Robbins whose Sharpsite Motorsports has restored the car to its original racing trim.
* 1969 Datsun 240Z HLS30-00008. Also in the group of the first Z cars sent to America in October 1969. This car was the first to be used for automotive press reviews and is believed to be the cover car of the January 1970 issue of Road & Track magazine. Later converted into a SCCA race car, the first Z to complete the 24 hours of Daytona. Today it is owned by Dr. Tom Bork and is still raced in vintage events.
* 1969 Datsun 240Z HLS30-00013, the first Z made available to the public for sale. Long considered the "missing link" to Z car history, the car was recently discovered in Connecticut after being in storage for over 30 years. The car had been lovingly preserved by its owner Rick Morgan since 1976. The recent cover story of Nissan Sport magazine.
* 1976 Datsun 620 Salt Flats truck. The new Land Speed Record holder at the East Coast Timing Association Nationals. Set a new record in the F Class of 123.35 mph, shattering the old record of 119 mph. The Datsun will attempt this September to also set new world records in the E and G classes, thus becoming the first truck to hold records in three different classes. The truck was built/driven by Barry Brown and Jeff Benson of Riter Restorations in East Rochester NY. Engine built by Vinny Bedini of Bedini Motorsports. Both Brown and Bedini had formerly built some of the Bob Sharp Racing cars.
* Custom 1970 Datsun 510 powered by the original Dodge Challenger drivetrain from Brock Yates' infamous first Cannonball Run car. A custom show car winner many times over.
We are proud to have this bit of Nissan/Datsun history on display together for possibly the only time ever. For further information on the event, please follow these links:

High Adventure at Watkins Glen International |
|
Hey all!
ZCCR welcomed the driving season in style today by taking in Opening Day at Watkins Glen International Raceway. We left a foggy and cool Rochester morning but quickly broke into brilliant sunshine and warm temps as we cut up some Finger Lakes roads. We arrived at the track (along with THOUSANDS of other cool rides) and took our place in the staging area near the garages that was set aside for club groups to take the track. We had time to enjoy the company of other car nuts and enjoy pretty much every type of sports/muscle/exotic car waiting to take to the track. A noontime lapping of vintage Mark Donohue race cars also entertained the crowd.
Finally we drove the historic racecourse. Three laps with a "lightly" controlled pace allowed us to wind our Zs up and wring them out. What a blast! Nothing like a Z humming along near redline! If you have never had the chance to experience your Z on the track, plan on joining us next year for WGI Opening Day the last Sunday in April.
UP NEXT: An on-the-road adventure by the ZcarnutZ (it's not an official ZCCR event, but many of our members will join-in) to the Imports at Carlisle Nationals May 15-17. Then its back to official club business with our next Monthly Membership Meeting on May 20 at the Corner Sports Bar in East Rochester We are also exploring the possibility of a Tech Day or Swap Meet during the month of May, so speak-up if you've a need or an idea!
Stay tuned.

 Spring NEWZletter |
|
Hello Gang!
We're launching our delivery of the club NEWZletter via the ZCCR website now, in doing so we invite you to CLICK HERE to be taken to a Zippy full color publication that we're hoping will be well received and appreciated by our membership.
This delivery method will allow you instant access to our latest NEWZ edition with a great look at the friends & cars pictured there-in in beautiful living color - a great advantage we believe. You get better viewability, and our main club sponsor (Hoselton Nissan - great folks, really) and all new sponsors we're approaching now will get more exposure and get it with their original advertizements just as they would like them ... the days of gray-scale are fading away. For the Summer NEWZletter we are angling to switch to a new format in an even friendlier reading style - all to enhance your experience!
Stay tuned for updates regarding the ZCCR 2009 All Japanese Import Car Show, and for more stories and articles about recent & upcoming events - like the recent trip to Z-Race Car heaven we experienced, or perhaps the ZCCRBOY'Z recently announced trip to the Carlisle PA Import Auto ExtravanganZa in mid-May.
Write me an email if you've any comments to share, whether about the NEWZ, the website, the fast approaching driving season, the boyz that are planning on auto-crossing at locally sponsored events, tech dayz you've been to - or that you'd like to see held ... or whatever!
