On the Road Again ...

Do Not Enter Hey all, here is the latest from YOUR club:

* Myself, Mike Noonan, Mike Yendrzeski and Mike Krenzer returned yesterday from ZCON 2010 in Nashville, TN.  The Z Car Club Association's annual International Convention attracted participants from all over the world, literally!  Zs of every generation were displayed on the spacious grounds of Nissan's North American Headquarters in Franklin, TN.  Celebrities, historic cars, "perfect" cars and "driver" cars were there to enjoy.  ZCON is actually 5 days of Z related events, watch for the next issue of the NEWZ for a full roundup of the event.  We will also set up a photo gallery on the website, so look for it.  In the meantime, a picture of the car show is attached.

* This coming Wednesday August 4 is a VERY special event to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times which helps children facing special challenges.  Classic cars of all types will be taking a cruise from Eastview Mall in Victor to Camp Good Days on beautiful Keuka Lake.  After driving the scenic roads of the region, the special cars will park on the grounds of Camp Good Days for the campers to enjoy.  Cost is $25 PER CAR and includes lunch at the camp.  All proceeds will go directly to Camp Good Days.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING, meet at the food court entrance of Eastview Mall on Wednesday August 4 at 11:00am.  Also, send me an email so we know who to look for.  This is a great chance to take a nice summer ride in your car, have lunch on the Keuka Lake shore, share your cool ride with some appreciative kids AND raise some money for this great charity.

* The next club event is on Saturday August 14.  Come out and celebrate ZCCR's 10th Birthday at our ANNUAL PICNIC!  Swimming, Games, Food, Beverage all FREE TO MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES!  Once again, Mike Krenzer and Meg Coon are hosting the picnic at their fabulous home in Hilton.  Current members will be receiving a postcard in the mail later this week with full information and directions.  It's fun, it's great, it's free and it's a decade of ZCCR!  Z YOU THERE!

* Finally for this week, your president's (ME!) 240Z has been selected as one of four finalists for Gold Eagle Inc.'s "COOL RIDES ONLINE" CAR OF THE MONTH!  Gold Eagle is the maker of such fine automotive products as Stay-Bil, HEET, 104 Octane Boost and more.  They are also supporters of ZCCR's All Japanese Car Show each year.  Anyway, visitors to the Cool Rides Online website are able to vote for their favorite finalist and the winner will get some SERIOUS prizes!  If you visit the site you will see a poll off to the left.  Visitors are allowed to vote on the poll once per day, so come back and vote often!  Thanks in advance for your support!  Here is the link:

Your vehicles actual driving history is now in your insurers hands - or is it !?

Do Not Enter If you're driving your pre-computer 240 this may hold little interest for you, however if your daily driver can be monitored by satellite or computer scanning in the repair-shop or at an accident scene, or (maybe soon) during a routine traffic-stop, then this article from the HMN could be quite informational for you. This controversy is coming to your home state shortly, if it hasn't already.

Washington black box law draws insurer ire: We live in strange times, when traditional opponents increasingly find themselves on the same side of an issue. Bank bailout money is an obvious example, but there’s legislation in the Washington State Legislature sponsored by the ACLU that enjoys broad support across party lines.

Sen. Claudia Kauffman introduced SB 5574, “An Act Relating to protecting consumer data in motor vehicles,” on January 27. In brief, it gives the owner of a vehicle unconditional ownership of any data generated by an event data recorder (EDR), or “black box” installed in that vehicle, with certain exceptions (On-Star-type calls in a medical emergency, anonymous data to improve vehicle safety, and by signed release).

But Progressive Insurance has raised an objection, claiming the legislation would hinder their introduction of EDR-based MyRate insurance into Washington State. MyRate uses a proprietary in-vehicle data collection system, which generates information on individual driving habits that Progressive then uses to set premiums. Washington lawmakers and the ACLU contend the law would still permit the program, while requiring full disclosure to the consumer and adding consumer protections.

In rebuttal to those objections, a new section was added to SB 5574 earlier this month: “An insurer shall not refuse to renew a motor vehicle insurance policy solely because a motor vehicle owner, as defined in section 1 of this act, refuses to provide access to recorded data from a recording device, as defined in section 1 of this act.” “(2) An insurer or agent shall not: Reduce coverage; increase the insured’s premium; apply a surcharge; refuse to apply a discount other than a discount that is based on data recorded by a recording device as defined in section 1 of this act; or when there are multiple insurers available, fail to place the motor vehicle owner with the most favorably priced insurer, solely because a motor vehicle owner refuses to allow an insurer access to data from a recording device.” Message: We’re on the consumer’s side on this one, and the Senate Bill Reports make outstanding reading. Several public hearings have been held since the bill’s introduction, and it’s currently in the House Committee on Transportation.

North Dakota (§ 51-07-28 (2006)) and Arkansas (§ 27-37-103 (2006)) currently have laws on the books that prohibit insurance contracts from requiring policyholders to consent to access EDR data.

PanoZ - a hot little custom built car you may never have heard of ...

Do Not Enter Hmmm, I was away for a brief stretch this early-Spring, took a jaunt down to the Key's of Florida for a warm fuZZy getaway ... seems the residents there are friendlier than their road-signs might otherwiZe portray ;-)

I met a fellow selling a Z, that is a PanoZ (Pay-Nose) Esperante GT, beautiful car, BIG engine, lotsa scoot, substantial investment to get into that game, but looking at the entrance to his street you might have second thoughts about entering the neighborhood. All's well that ends well anyway - he & his gal were nifty people and the car was a sweetheart ... check out the maker on the web by doing a quick Google search. I however remain strongly in the real-Z family having resisted the temptation that came along with 400 horses and a rag-top, LOL!

Best Regards,
Mike Noonan
