Drive-In-Movie-Mania this week-end !!!

Dip Hello All!  Here's the latest from YOUR club:

* We are closing the books on our recently concluded All Japanese Car Show Weekend and so far all feedback is positive.  It looks like we will be able to significantly increase our donation over last year to our two 2010 charities, The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester and the Rochester/Finger Lakes Eye and Tissue Bank.  Final numbers are still being crunched but it looks like at least a 50% donation increase over last year.  This is course attributable to the hard work of the army of ZCCR volunteers who made the event happen and those of you who participated.  You all know who you are, so on behalf of myself and the entire Board of Directors, THANK YOU!

* We had just over 150 cars of all Japanese makes and models represented at the car show!  From stock to wild, there was something for everyone's taste.  Look for a new twist in 2011 that should greatly increase that number!  ;-)

* The many out-of-town guests who came to participate in the weekend all are commenting on what a great time they had.  From the Friday Kickoff Party, to the Car Show, to the Watkins Glen experience, ALL had a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to coming back in 2011.  Let's hope that they bring more of their friends with them!

* Pictures from the All Japanese Car Show Weekend are now up on the website in a new photo gallery.  More are being added daily, so check back for the latest.

* The last note on the AJCS is a HUGE "THANK YOU" to all of our sponsors whose generosity enabled us to put on the entire weekend event AND make a significant contribution to our local charities.  All of the sponsors will be listed in the next club newsletter and some are linked on the website homepage.  I strongly encourage all ZCCR members to patronize our sponsors to thank them for supporting YOUR club.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* ATTENTION!  WE HAVE ADDED A NEW EVENT TO THE CALENDAR!  THIS SATURDAY, JULY 24, we are CRUISIN' TO THE DRIVE-IN!  Yes, do to popular demand, we are reinstating our yearly trek to the VINTAGE DRIVE-IN in Avon, NY.  The Vintage Drive-In has three screens that show two first-run movies each. There will be a HUGE ZCCR TAILGATE PARTY before the first movie! That's right, bring your favorite snack or dish to pass and a beverage to set up shop in front of our Zs to have some fun before the movie starts!  The details:
* MEET AT THE JEFFERSON PLAZA, 1100 Jefferson Rd. in Henrietta (right next to Rt. 390) at 6:45pm this Saturday July 24.  Meet up front near the "Five Guys" restaurant.  We will depart for the Drive-In by 7:00pm.
* BRING your own lawn chairs, a dish to pass, snacks and beverage, if you wish.
*
Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children aged 4-10.  There is also a $5 per car "food permit" fee (still better than buying drive-in food!).
* First movie starts at approx 9:00pm, second shortly after 11.  We will "vote" on which movies to see before departure.  Of course you are free to see whatever movies you wish, but why wouldn't you WANT TO PARK WITH THE REST OF THE Zs???  ;-)
* THIS EVENT IS WEATHER PERMITTING of course.  No fun watching outdoor movies in the rain!
* Shoot me an email if you are attending so we know to look for you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's July.  It's HOT. Your Z is begging to be driven.

Dip HAPPY HOLIDAYZ from the Board of Directors of ZCCR!

A great time was had by all at our annual Holiday Party this past Saturday at Mickey Finn's.  The appetizers were scruptious, the dinner was delicious, the music was fabulous, and the company was stupendous!  It was wonderful sharing some holiday spirit with all of you.....

We are taking some time off to enjoy the season with our friends and families.  The next ZCCR event will be our annual Groudhawg Day party on Sunday February 7, 2010.  Once again we will hold the Great Chili Cookoff to see who can clain the title of Best Chili for 2010, announce our 2009 Member of the Year and warm up a winter day with some ZCCR comeraderie.  Watch for details next month.

Until then, please enjoy the attachment to this email.  Take the time to enjoy what is truly special in our lives and share that feeling with others.

Continuing on in Style ...

Dip Here is the latest from YOUR club:

* Thanks to Mike Krenzer and Meg Coon for hosting our 9th Anniversary Picnic at their home this past Saturday.  It was a great turnout on a perfect summer day.  Everyone enjoyed swimming, good food & drink and that one and only ZCCR friendship.  An informal line of Z-Cars on the front lawn created a Z-Car show that had passerbys slowing to take a look.  This event is always free to members, if you missed this year, make sure to join us next year.

* The next ZCCR event is this Saturday, August 22.  We will be traveling north of the border to join our friends from the Ontario Z Club at their wonderful "Z FEST" car show.  Check out their event flyer at their website. This year it will be held at Nissan Canada HQ just outside of Toronto.  Lots of great people, good food, absolutely fantastic prizes and wonderful examples of every Z ever produced.  Nissan plans to have a new 370Z roadster and GTR on display for you to check out up close.  We will be departing from the Brueggers Bagels in the Wegmans Plaza at Long Pond and Latta Roads in Greece at 7:15am SHARP.  Get there earlier if you want refreshments.
**IMPORTANT!  Please note that you MUST have a US Passport, Passport Card or Enhanced Driver License to cross the border!**  A driver license and birth certificate is no longer good enough to pass through customs.

* On Saturday August 29, I will be finishing disassembly of my 1973 240Z parts car.  The car is stock, complete and pretty much everything will be available for you parts hounds.  Bring your tools and come out to my house in Webster to enjoy some coffee and donuts and to help take the old girl apart.  These "stripping parties" are always fun, so come and get those 240 parts you need.  Email me for directions.

* On Sunday September 6, we will be traveling down the thruway to Buffalo to participate in the Buffalo Octagon Association annual car show at Como Lake Park. Watch your emails the week before the event for departure details.

There's still lots to do with ZCCR!  Stay tuned...

ManSpace & Hot Rods

Dip Guy's it's time to start understanding, recognizing & claiming your territory, staking-out the turf your man-self needs to maintain its identity, heck - you have a car (I know you do because you're visiting this site, and most likely it's a fabulous Z-Car) and if you have a car I bet it has ITS own space ... step-up fella's it's time to get-it-on!

Our book of the month suggestion is: ManSpace: A Primal Guide to Marking Your Territory by Sam Martin. You can check it out at Amazon.com and while there are likely a number of other sources (online or at a local bookstore) I've been able to purchase a copy (new) for less than a Buck, one skinny George Washington, a measly $.97 cents + shipping actually - so not so shabby a value, my purchase delivered came to <$5.00 - what a deal! Go ahead, get out of your traditional thinking patterns, get funky, get moving towards a definable goal ... 'YourSpace', right in your own home or backyard!

Say, while I'm at it, let's cut loose with another recommendation, this one comes from Hemmings Motor News: Hot Rod Garages, it puts more emphasis on the hot rod. One would think that a book titled Hot Rod Garages would focus on, maybe, the garages that house hot rods? And Peter Vincent’s latest book, so titled, certainly aims toward that end. He traveled across the country for the book, photographing the shops of Roy Brizio, Cole Foster, Pete Eastwood and Vern and Keith Tardel, among many others. And certainly, the reader gets a glimpse of the Americana d?cor within, structure of and tools that inhabit many of the garages. But the end result seems to showcase instead the hot rods that inhabit the garages and the stories of the men who work in the garages, and often digresses from garages entirely and highlights professional shops rather than backyard hangouts.

Granted, Vincent likely never intended to produce a book exactly like Kris Palmer’s Dream Garages, and the reader can still pluck inspiration for his own garage in between the photos of hot rods, but you do come away from some of the garage profiles feeling as though you just read a promotional piece for the owner of the garage rather than an informative or entertaining piece on how a man stores his hot rod.
Hot Rod Garages, a 224-page hardcover with 225 color and black and white photos, is set for release May 2, and is priced at $40. For more information, visit www.motorbooks.com. - By Daniel Strohl

Let me know what you think of these recommendations, or if you've a unique selection we should be promoting here ...

Maxwell House it's not !!!

Dip Now here's a company that's into creative marketing ... got a project working in that fabulous garage of yours, want to approach it in the morning with a 'sharp as a tack' mindset ... well here you go guy's & gal's - it's JAVA-time with Redline! No, they're not a sponsor of ours, no we haven't tried the product, yes we're open to free-samples sent by the case if they catch onto our mini-promotion for their product, LOL!

Anyway, this is just too good a fit for our macho sports car guy/gal niche` to let it slip by without a mention ... by all means feel free to supply a fresh pot full at your next tech-day meet-up, or bring along a thermos to share at that next Solo event you're attending, us ZcarnutZ will gladly partake of the brew and offer up a very well considered opinion!

Now, if we can just get them to feature a hot club Z-car in their scrolling website flash album we'd be all set, oh Yeah Baby!!

Ball Game Report from the Chair!

Dip RedWings  0,    Pawtucket RedSoxs  10, O U C H !!!
Thirty seven people attended the 3rd annual Red Wings outing for the ZCCR on a hot, sunny and very windy day at Frontier Stadium.

Our seats located in Section 210 of the Upper Boxs were perfect for viewing the game. Six people brought their Z's for general viewing in front of the Main Entrance. Many people stopped by to view the cars and to ask questions.

It was Joe Altobelli jersey handout Day, so everyone got a replica baseball jersey to take home (of very nice quality indeed!).

Other than the fact the Red Wings couldn't score any runs, and gave up six home runs to Pawtucket, it was a great game, and a great, fun day for all who attended.

A major Thunder Storm hit the stadium in the eight inning, and we all headed for our cars and the drive home. As usual, the Red Wings posted a ZCCR message across the Large scoreboard as beng one of the participating organizations for the days game. All in all, we all had a great day.

(Sidenote: The ball park food, lemonade and indeed the COLD adult beverages were outstanding.  That stadium has Major League concessionaires at the food court; red-dogs, white-dogs, burgers, philly cheesesteak, pulled pork, chicken ceasar wraps ... you name it they've got it - and man is it tasty. Let's vote for even more RedWingsBucks next year for all attendee's - we've gotta start early & eat often to squeeze in all the flavors)!

Git 'er out and Git 'er Runnin' - it's just about Spring

Dip
Spring Checklist from Hagerty Insurance

It's just about time to "think spring," and with that comes a few things you should do before driving your car the first time after storage. If your car has been in storage for less than six months, follow these steps:
· If the battery has not been removed already for storage, take it out to charge and then store it in a warm dry place until start up.
· Inspect the fuel system. Be sure the choke and throttle linkages move freely and the system is free of any leaks. Check lines for signs of deterioration. Due to advances in refinery procedures, modern pump fuel remains stable for at least six months, so if you topped off the tank prior to storage the fuel should be fine for start up.
· Inspect cooling system. Look for cracking or loose fan belts and leaking or deteriorating radiator and heater hoses. Check that coolant is clear of debris, at the proper level, and is still a rich green color.
· Inspect the engine for signs of oil leaks and that the oil level is up. If the oil wasn't changed prior to storage, change it now; otherwise wait until after the initial start up. Also check transmission, brake, and differential levels and inspect for leaks.
· Inspect the ignition system for signs of cracking on ignition wires and related wiring connections. Check the distributor cap for moisture or deterioration.
· Inspect the brakes and suspension components for any signs of deterioration. Be sure all components are operating freely and functioning as designed, including the emergency brake.
· Repair any problems found prior to start up.

Now you’re ready to:

· Install the warm, fully charged battery into your classic. Remove the ignition wire from the coil and turn the engine over several times. You should do so until your oil pressure gauge needle moves up – if you have a light, let it spin for a 10 count.
· Reconnect the ignition. Also remove the air cleaner lid and check that there is fuel squirting in the carburetor when you move the throttle. Reinstall the air cleaner lid.
· Get in the driver’s seat and follow the usual starting procedures for your car. Be sure the vehicle is out of gear.
· Let the engine idle until it reaches operating temperature. Closely monitor engine operation, watching for leaks, or malfunctioning systems. Listen for noises such as knocks or rattles.
· After the engine has warmed up, shut it down. Change the oil and filter; this clears the engine of any moisture that gathered inside over the winter. Check for any leaks in general once again on and around the car.
· Now you can start it up and check the brakes for proper operation. Take the car for a 30-minute ride close to your home.
· Check again for any fluid leaks when you return home.
· Finally, give your classic a good wash and wax. It’s time to take a spin and enjoy the road with your classic.

NOTE: If your car has been in storage longer than six months, a more thorough inspection and procedures may be required. Storage for long periods of time can actually leave the car in a state of disrepair due to deterioration. It is good to reserve this type of inspection and start up to a trusted mechanic.
