Always the Dapper-Dan, he's always a hop, skip & jump above us ... Find ZCCR member Ron Whitlock & his daughter high atop a Russian mountain range
here! Then go on to see the rest of his photo's in our
club gallery's! Ron, a ZCCR charter mamber, never misses an opportunity to fly the club banner while on-high, matter of fact, in total elevation achieved, the banner may have flown as high as the space shuttle in orbit by now as Ron has summited so many mountains worldwide!
Ron reports:"July 20th at 10:30am, we hit the summit of Elbrus in Russia, about 18,500', on a perfectly gorgeous day, no wind or snow and hardly a cloud anywhere. Twelve climbers including my daughter Terri, and 3 guides made it. One fellow had some problems and elected to watch us from base camp at 12,000'. Not as difficult as some of the other mts, but a very memorable time. Started at 6,500ft and hit the summit in 5 days with acclimatization climbs plus a rest day. Snow, rain or sleet every day except summit day. We all spent 3 days in St Petersburg prior to climb and 2 in Moscow after the climb. Visited lots of palaces from Peter the Great's days to Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin's tomb and the Basil Cathedral and even took in a ballet (Swan Lake) at the Russian National Ballet theater. So a very nice trip."
Welcome home Ron, we're glad to see detente is still working and you've not precipitated any major international incidents!
