ZCCR Update: 4-23-14

Curves
Hey All! Here is the latest from ZCCR:

* The Tech Day/Meeting scheduled for this coming Sunday April 27 has been POSTPONED until further notice (more work was found needing done in the engine compartment prior to the ...intended engine re-assembly). Several members have projects that need doing, so we are working on scheduling more tech days in the near future, please watch for updates on scheduling.

* Our first driving event will be on Saturday May 3 when we kick off our weekly "Cars & Coffee" gathering at the Crossroads Coffee House, 752 S. Goodman Street • Rochester, New York • 14620, http://www.xroadscoffeehouse.com/ . This will be an every Saturday morning meet, starting 8am in the driving season. Get out in your car for a morning drive, have some of Crossroad's great refreshments, meet up with friends, talk car talk and then get on with your day. See you there next Saturday!

* The next edition of the club newsletter will be out in May. If you have anything that you would like to contribute or have included, please send them to newsletter editor Sam Hartley at wavemux@gmail.com . Deadline for submissions is May 10.

* Saturday May 10 will be one of our best spring events, DYNO DAY and SHOW & SHINE! Our pal Rick Wilson of Wilson Performance, 3910 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624, http://rhwracing.com/ , will host a special day at his shop with dyno runs available at a special discount for participants. Lunch will be provided by ZCCR, there will be special contests with prizes such as "highest HP", "lowest HP", "closest guess to HP" and more! Break out your car and show it off in the show & shine, check out Wilson's speed shop and dyno. The fun begins at 9am, so come on out and enjoy a great spring event!

* We have a full compliment of members heading to Carlisle PA on May 16-18 to participate in the Carlisle Import Nationals. ZCCR will represent in the "East Coast Z Nationals" held within the Carlisle event. The hotel space that we reserved is booked, but if any of you are still interested in coming along, you can be an extra in the room (if you bring along an air mattress) or seek out your own hotel accommodations elsewhere. This trip is a BLAST, a bucket list item for sure. We'll be touring the AACA museum ( www.aacamuseum.org ) on Friday, spending the day at the Import Nationals ( http://carsatcarlisle.com/carlisle-events/carlisle-import-kit-nationals/default.aspx ) on Saturday and touring the PA countryside on the way home on Sunday with interesting stops along the way. Shout out if you want in!

* Finally, I am very saddened to pass along some bad news. Former ZCCR member Brian Mellor was tragically killed in an auto accident near his home in Philadelphia last week. Please keep Brian and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Peaze,

ZCCR Update: 4-11-14

Detour Ahead
Your preZident is taking some time off next week, so here is a slightly early ZCCR update:

* We've just learned from the RIT Inn & Conference Center, the host hotel of our Motor Fest Weekend July 18-20, has sold out the block of rooms set aside for us.  Our fearless VP Mike Noonan has been able to score a few more rooms for our event, but they are sure to go FAST and the hotel is booked solid for that weekend.  This year's Motor Fest is going to be bigger and more spectacular than ever, so if you are thinking of attending, and want accommodations at the host hotel, I'd suggest that you make reservations NOW.  The RIT I&CC is conveniently located near NYS Thruway exit 46 and Interstate 390 just south of Rochester NY.  A special room rate of $109 per night is available to our guests, just request the "Z CAR CLUB EVENT DISCOUNT" when making your reservations.  See more about the RIT Inn and Conference Center here:
http://www.rit.edu/ritinn/maps-directions/

* If you haven't yet registered for Motor Fest, you can find complete details here:
http://www.zccr.net/main/Uploaded/2014_ZCCR_Motorfest_Registration_4.3.pdf

* Unfortunately we were unable to put together a club event for Watkins Glen International's Opening Weekend THIS weekend.  Opening weekend was moved up a couple of weeks by WGI and most ZCCRers don't have their cars our of storage yet.  It's also a religious holiday for some, so we couldn't get enough folks to commit to make it a club event.  If you were looking forward to getting on the historic track, have no fear!  Three laps at the Glen are part of our MOTOR FEST weekend on July 19.  You can still experience the WGI laps this weekend on your own if you wish.  $25 gets you three laps in your car.

* April 27 will be a member meeting/tech day at Mike Noonan's house where we will be installing a head gasket and cylinder head on his awesome '71 240Z.  Come out and learn something and get some refreshments too.  Details to follow the week of the event.

* CARLISLE!  On May 16 a bunch of ZCCR ZcarnutZ will be heading to Carlisle PA for the Import Nationals.  Over 1200 imports on display, an eastern regional Z Car meet, awesome car corral, a huge vendors marketplace, food and fun with  your pals!  We will also be stopping by the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) museum in nearby Hershey to check out their new feature display of vehicles from the Far East!  Some of the unique vehicles on display will be our pal Dan Banks' 1938 Datsun Fire Truck, a 1936 Datsun Phaeton (the first time ever two pre-WWII Datsun cars displayed together in America!), a Toyota Sport 800, Crown Coupe AND a 2000GT Emoji.  Also a rare Mazda Cosmo and of course an original Datsun 240Z.  We depart Friday morning, spend Friday afternoon at the museum, Saturday all day at the Import Nationals, Sunday return home with interesting stops along the way.
We've reserved a few rooms at the Staybridge Suites in nearby Harrisburg, but beds are going fast!  Three to a room, your hotel cost will be approx $120 for the weekend, food is on your own. It's a great event and has become a yearly ZCCR tradition.  REPLY TO ME ASAP IF YOU WANT IN ON OUR GROUP!

That's it for now!  Enjoy the springtime weather while it lasts!

Special ZCCR Update: WGI not

No Entry
* The scheduled club excursion to Watkins Glen International planned for this coming Sunday April 13 is CANCELLED. After much feedback from the membership, most folks cars are still in storage and it is a religious holiday for some. OF course YOU can STILL go on your own and do your three laps at the Glen either Saturday or Sunday, it just won't be an organized ZCCR event. While the weather forecast is decent, WGI moving Opening Weekend up TWO WEEKS from its normal end of April date just wasn't a user friendly decision for the bulk of our crowd. Maybe next year. Me? I'll be getting my cars on the road this weekend. If you do choose to participate send a photo from the track and we'll post you up here.

* COMING UP NEXT, on Sunday April 27 there will be a tech session at VP Mike Noonan's garage where we will install a head gasket and cylinder head on his '71 240Z. Mike lives in the scenic Bristol hills, so a breakfast meet caravan will be organized for those of you wishing to go from the Rochester area. Stay tuned.

ZCCR Update 04-07-14

Loose Gravel
Hey all! Here is the latest from ZCCR:
* I'm not totally comfortable that Spring has actually sprung in this part of the world. On our schedule is a trip this coming Sunday April 13 where we will take a cruise down to Watkins Glen International for their Opening Day. Our group would take our cars on the historic track for three warm laps ($25 per car), then head into the Village for a lunch stop. For reasons I don't understand, WGI has moved Opening Day up, TWO weeks earlier than usual, a risky proposition in the northeast at best. Feedback from the club about participation in this event has been pretty nonexistent, so before we make the official call to proceed or not I'm asking that you respond here with an email to me or a private message on the club Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/zccrny if you are intending to go to the Glen on Sunday! I will take whatever feedback received and make the call on whether this event will proceed or not on Friday. Watch for updates.
* On Sunday April 27 there will be a tech session at VP Mike Noonan's garage where we will install a head gasket and cylinder head on his '71 240Z. Mike lives in the scenic Bristol hills, so a breakfast meet caravan will be organized for those of you wishing to go from the Rochester area. Stay tuned.
* Plans are in high gear for our BIG annual event, "Motor Fest 2014", scheduled for the weekend of July 18-20. It's going to be bigger and better than ever before! We've kicked it up quite a few notches with a bigger host hotel, bigger banquet, bigger auction, bigger entertainment and a bigger car show! I've attached the event registration form which spells out all of the details for the weekend and a poster for the car show itself. I'm asking all ZCCR members to put this event in their calendar and get that registration form sent in to reserve your spot for the various events. As always, the event will benefit a worthy charity in our local community, this year it's the Dream Factory of Rochester. Learn more about them here: http://dreamfactoryincroc.org/ .
* The ZCCR "ZcarnutZ" annual trip to the Carlisle All Import Nationals in Carlisle PA is May 16-18. If you've never experienced this event, it is import car heaven with over 1200 cars on display. Also enjoy special displays, a car corral and an automotive flea market second to none. Learn more about the event here: http://carsatcarlisle.com/carlisle-events/carlisle-import-kit-nationals/default.aspx . We will also be taking in the "Motoring Mysteries of the Far East" at the nearby Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey. One of the vehicles featured is our pal Dan Banks' 1938 Datsun Fire Truck! Learn more about the exhibit here:
http://www.aacamuseum.org/motoring-mysteries-far-east/ .
Our ZCCR group will be staying at the nearby Staybridge Suites in Harrisburg. We have a limited number of rooms to share reserved, which are going FAST, so if you want to join in, contact me ASAP for complete details.

ZCCR Update: 3-31-14

Detour Ahead
Hey all! Here is the latest from ZCCR:
* Mother Nature played a cruel trick on us this past weekend with March most definitely going out like a lion. 8-10 inches of heavy wet snow blanketed the region bringing with it the army of salt trucks to again bury our roads with salt. Not a very funny April Fool's at all! The upcoming forecast is for rising temperatures, but we need a few good RAINS to wash the roads clean for our Zs. Cross your fingers!

* Quite a few ZCCRers br...aved the early spring snowstorm this past Saturday night to take in our Dinner & Concert evening! The group enjoyed fantastic Mexican cuisine and beverages at Salena's Mexican Restaurant and then headed over to the East End Theater to enjoy The Josie Waverly Band's "Queens of Pure Country" show. A great time was had by all, until we had to drive home in the snowstorm!

* Our Next Club event is scheduled for Sunday April 13 when we will take a cruise down to Watkins Glen International for their Opening Day. Our group will take our cars on the historic track for three warm laps ($25 per car), then head into the Village for a lunch stop. OBVIOUSLY this event will be weather sensitive, and with it being two weeks earlier than normal this year and the amount of salt still on the roads, it will be a "few days beforehand" before we make the official call to proceed or not. Watch your emails for updates.

* On Sunday April 27 there will be a tech session at VP Mike Noonan's garage where we will install a head gasket and cylinder head on his '71 240Z. Mike lives in the scenic hills South of town, so a caravan will be organized for those of you wishing to go from the Rochester area. Stay tuned.

* May will bring the ZCCR "ZcarnutZ" annual trip to the Carlisle All Import Nationals in Carlisle PA. The dates are May 16-18.
