PLEASE NOTE that the location of ZCCR's Membership Meeting for Wednesday February 15 has been CHANGED.

The meeting will be held at Mulconrys Irish Pub in Fairport, NY. Mulconry's is located on Liftbridge Lane, directly across from the weekly Box Factory Cruise Night location.

January 30, 2012 Member Update

Hey All! Here is the latest from ZCCR:

* This past Saturday "Z School #2" was held at my Z Garage for a cooling system upgrade on my 1994 300ZXTT. I used the aluminum performance radiator with silicone water and intake hoses from long time ZCCR sponsor AMS in Toronto ( http://www.amsmotorsports.com/ ). BIG thanks to all that came out to help and learn including Mike Noonan, Mike Krenzer, Bob Mooney, Frank McGinley, Bill Brackman, Scott Gibson, Bob Anderson, Kurt Thiel and Mike Yendrzeski (sorry if I overlooked anyone!).

* Our next Z SCHOOL will be held on Saturday, February 11 at Mike Noonan's Z garage. On the agenda is pulling the drivetrain from a 1987 300ZX, tearing down a 280ZX turbo engine and more. Come out to hang out, have a cup of coffee, shoot the Z breeze, get a little dirty and learn something! Send me an email if you need directions.

* The first general membership meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday February 15 at Hose 22 Firehouse Grill on Stutson St. Dinner at 6pm, meeting at 7pm. Member David Palermo will be giving a multimedia presentation on his trip to Ireland and the interesting vehicles that he encountered.

* The ZCCR ZcarnutZ are again planning a trip to Carlisle, PA to participate in the Carlisle All Import Nationals. The dates are Friday May 18 to Sunday May 20. We leave bright and early Friday morning, spend the afternoon at the show and then all day Saturday at the show. Sunday we take the liesurely drive home. The Staybridge Suites in nearby Harrisburg, PA is our hotel, 3 to a room, cost split equally. More information on the event can be found here: http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/events/import/ . Let me know if you are interested in joining the group and I will keep you in the loop! A great time is always had at this major car event. Over 1000 imports on display, a HUGE vendor and flea market, food, raffles and more!

* Please be sure to pay prompt attention to your membership renewals when you receive them from Membership Director Frank McGinley. Expired members will be removed from our mailing lists and not be entitled to any club benefits. AND if you renew on time, you save $5!

January Updates to Date ...

* Your Board of Directors has been hard at work planning and organizing an interesting schedule of events for 2012. Some old favorites and some new adventures await you, check it out. The calendar has been sent to your email addresses, please print it out and keep it for reference. As always, check your email for revisions, updates and further information on events.

* ZCCR offered condolences to long time members Bob and Debbie Anderson on the recent loss of Debbie's father. We received the following from the family: Z Car Club,Thank you for sending the beautiful floral arrangement. We appreciate your kindness and support during this time.

* Another long time club and board of directors member Scott Kozlowski recently had a rather serious accident at home and is now recouperating. Our thoughts are with Scott for a speedy recovery.

* The club newsletter ZCCR NEWZ is going electronic! The club newsletter will now be available in your email and on the club website beginning this spring. Look for it! If you have anything you would like to see published in the newsletter, feel free to pass it along.

* The club website is enjoying in excess of 700,000 "hits" per year! Current news and club sponsor links are posted on the homepage so check in often at www.zccr.net to keep up with club happenings. ALSO, look for us on FACEBOOK: ZCCR Zcarclubofrochester !

* A General Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 15 at Hose 22 Firehouse Grill on Stutson St. in Rochester's Charlotte area. David Palermo will be giving a presentation on his trip to Ireland and the interesting vehicles he encountered. Dinner at 6pm, meeting at 7pm.

* It's not too early to plan on joining in on your club's biggest event! The All Import Car Show Weekend will be held from Friday July 13 through Sunday July 15. We expect hundreds of participants from all over the northeast and Canada as well as the local area.

* * * The Car Show will be held on SUNDAY JULY 15 (changed from Saturday last year) at the Elks Lodge on Jackson Rd. in Webster NY. The venue is less than one mile from the host hotel.
* In addition to cars from all over the import world, import MOTORCYCLES will be included in 2012!
* Awards will be selected by an expert panel of judges selecting best in class, best in show, best engine, best paint, best interior and "TOP 25" rides.
* Friday evening will have a FREE kickoff party at the Holiday Inn.
* Saturday will have a road rally to scenic and interesting destinations of the Finger Lakes region. Included will be shopping, wineries, twisty roads and more!
* Saturday evening will have a SPECIAL EVENT at the Holiday Inn Banquet Room! Try your luck (for FUN) at all of the classic casino games presented by a professional company. No monetary winnings, it's just for fun, but the "winners" will get fantastic prizes at the end of the evening. Food and beverages too!
* Sunday is the 5th Annual Jonathan Krenzer Memorial All Import Car Show at the Elks Lodge. Music, food, raffles, prizes , vendors and lots of cool vehicles!
* Expanded vendor area with automotive providers of all types along with your chance to score some vintage parts that you have been searching for.

It's YOUR club, it's YOUR club's big event. Join in on the fun! Volunteers ALWAYS welcome!

* It is with regret that I pass on the news of the passing of Richard T. Towner Jr., ZCCR member Kirk Towner's father. Honeoye, NY: January 2, 2012, at age 86.

* Member Bob Mooney is undertaking a L28ET 280ZX turbo transplant into his '77 Z. Bob is in need of the WIRING DIAGRAM for the 1981 280ZX turbo, it is unique and NOT the same as the 1982-83 models. Anyone who has it or knows where Bob can find it, please let us know.

* This winter season has "Z SCHOOL" in full swing! So far we have tech sessions scheduled for January 28 and February 11. If you are interested in attending just let me know and I will send you the details. If you have a project that you would like help with, let us know and we will schedule it. Got to get those Zs ready for spring!

ZCCR's Holiday Party is approaching FAST

‎The ZCCR Annual Holiday Party reservation deadline is approaching fast. The event will be held on Friday, December 9 at the Green Lantern Inn in the village of Fairport, NY. Beverages and Hors d'oeuvres at 6:30pm, dinner at 8:00pm. Enjoy a full array of appetizers and your first drink on the house followed by a full-course deluxe buffet dinner. The dinner event is a $55.50 per person value, cost to members is only $15 per person! Thanks to the hard work of your fellow club members throughout the year, ZCCR is able to underwrite most of the cost of this wonderful year-end event. Reservations are REQUIRED, so please reserve promptly. Check your postcard for details or give us a call!

Novembrr Cruise not Brr but Brilliant!

Hey All!

Yesterday nine hearty ZCCR members took advantage of the unusually pleasant fall weather and took a cruise west to Buffalo to sample "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" highly recommended restaurant, "Sophias".

The route from Rochester to Buffalo out Rt. 31 was quite scenic with cobalt blue skies and brillaint sunshine. Lots of curvy roads passing thorugh quaint towns such as Gasport, Lockport and Tonowanda welcomed our Zs as we passed through. The group arrived safely at Sophias and enjoyed such favorites as Greek omlettes, apple and blueberry pancakes and their signature, fried boloney and onion sandwich with home fries! Sophias makes everything from scratch and it showed! What a treat! Take a look here!

ZCCR's annual HOLIDAY PARTY on Friday, December 9. beverages @ 6:30pm, Dinner @ 8:00pm. This year we will be at the historic GREEN LANTERN INN in Fairport, NY. Enjoy a soup-to-nuts buffet and complimentary drink, a $52.50 value. Cost to members only $15 per person (underwritten by ZCCR for your enjoyment). Watch for your invitation in the US mail this week and get your reservation in early. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.

Fall Foliage Cruise - Sunday 10/16

OK, it's time, Falls color's abound, county roads await, and our annual Z driving-season finale is upon us!

When: Sunday October 16th, 9:00AM departure (those with a caffeine & carbs desire can swing into the nearby Brueggers Bagels on Rt 96 at 8:30AM)
Where: Bushnells Basin Park n' Ride
Where-to: Destinations South & West; through Pittsford, Menden, Honeoye Falls, Avon, Caledonia, Mumford, Scottsville/Rush & Henrietta

(1) Fast n' Furious like we jog on over to the fabulous Powers Farm Market just a stones throw from our club's primary sponsor Hoselton Auto Mall. In their classic log-cabin you can find that perfect pumpkin, select some local in-season apples, and maybe even visit their corn-stalk teepee's.

(2) Then we'll venture cross-country to Mumford, checking out all the fine foliage, for a visit to Liz Wilcox' Red Cottage Wares featuring Antiques & Collectibles, Primitives & Handmades, Smalls & Linens.

(3) For the highlight of our day we wander on to Rush. If you think about it you understand ZCCR is all about transportation. Our usual mode to get from here-to-there has 4-wheels, two-seats, and long stretches of adventure as we "Enjoy the Ride". Well this year for our season ending cruise we merge our favorite vehicles with those of a bygone era - we've planned a railroad ride from the New York Museum of Transportation!

This stop will include an excursion on a full-size rail line, which includes a guided tour at the neighboring Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum, featuring a restored country train depot and a wide assortment of railroad equipment on display. The museum's 80-year-old electric trolley car takes us to Midway Station where we'll board a diesel powered train with a mighty locomotive providing all the horsepower we'd ever need for continuation to the depot. For our return to Midway Station, we'll find the electric trolley car waiting for us. To change the direction of travel the conductor will have reversed the trolley poles (like the old-days in downtown Rochester the electric motor powering our ride gets its energy from the live electric line overhead), with that done they'll ready to transport us on our reverse trip through more beautiful Genesee Valley countryside.

The museum & train ride segment of our day will cost $8.00 per person as the museum's cover their costs and add a bit to their treasury to help with their year-long operations.

(4) Last Stop: MacGregor's Grille & Tap Room in Henrietta where good food and adult beverages abound - oh, and they have football on the wide-screens too!

VINTAGE Week-end coming up next!

THIS weekend a very special event is happening in nearby Watkins Glen NY!

The WATKINS GLEN GRAND PRIX FESTIVAL is THIS Friday, September 9. Each year the festival features a specific historic marque and THIS year, for the FIRST time, the featured marque is DATSUN / NISSAN!

Since 1993, the Grand Prix Festival of Watkins Glen presented has celebrated the history of motor racing. Events include the Walk of Fame award ceremony, a historical lecture called The Legends Speak, a pre-race Tech Inspection at Smalley's Garage, and a judged automobile show, the The Chemung Canal Trust Company Concours d'Elegance.
The featured highlight of the Festival is a tribute to the original Grand Prix races using the original 6.6 mile road course. The tour of the original Grand Prix course will be paced by none other that ZCCR's KURT THIEL with his 1972 240Z!

ON Saturday September 10, The Glenora Wine Cellars U.S. Vintage Grand Prix races will be held at the nearby Watkins Glen International . Racing will continue on Sunday.

There will be featured races throughout the day with dozens of classic and vintage race cars, including historic Datsuns and Nissans. ZCCR's Allan Robbins and Tom Bork will be racing their truly historic 240Zs, HLS30-00006 and HLS30-00008 respectively. Barry Brown will have his land speed record holding Datsun 620 truck and custom "Cannonball 510" on display at the Nissan paddock.

World famous Datsun race driver and team owner BOB SHARP will be the GRAND MARSHALL of the weekend event. Bob has personally called me and invited ZCCR members to attend the event to meet and greet him and swap Datsun war stories. A great chance to meet this racing legend in person! At this writing, details are still being developed, but we hope to have a late morning club gathering at Tom Bork's racing paddock with Bob Sharp stopping by to say hello.

Cars featured in Friday's event in the village will be displayed at the track in the "CAR CORRAL" near the Pyramid Camel GT services building. I would suggest that you make your way there when you get to the track, look for your fellow ZCCR members and take it from there. Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $45 and are good for both Saturday and Sunday. I am planning on being at the track on Saturday morning, should you need to contact me for more information. Call or text and I will pass on the latest news. Otherwise, look for the paddocks of Allan or Tom and enjoy the racing!

Want a chance to show off your Z before the season ends? Here are some upcoming shows beginning THIS SUNDAY:

* This Sunday August 28 is a charity car show to benefit a local woman fighting cancer. "Roddin for Red" will be held at Ginegaw Park in Walworth NY, located in the village at Rts. 441 and 350. 11am to 5pm, $10 registration, LIVE bands performing, food by Sticky Lips BBQ, raffles and silent auctions. 100% of the proceeds to benefit Brittany (Drexler) Dippel to help cover medical expenses. A nice way to spend one of our summer Sundays, and a good cause too. Shout out if you will be going and we will look for you!

* Sunday September 4 will be the Buffalo Octagon Association's annual car show. This group of MG enthusiasts put on a wonderful car show for all makes and models every year at scenic Como Lake Park in Lancaster NY. Raffles, silent auctions, food, music and more. We always have fun with the ZCCR group meeting for breakfast and taking the short drive west down the thruway to this event. A very nice day at a very nice show in a very nice location. OZC Fest comes around once again !!!

Hey All! Here's the latest from ZCCR:

* THIS Saturday August 20 is the 17th annual Z FEST in Brantford, Ontario, hosted by our friends of the Ontario Z Owners Association. This is a terrific Nissan / Z ONLY car show! Last year over 130 Zs of all types and vintages were on display. Gates open 9am, registration 9am-12 noon. Registration is $10 per car. Awards for best in class in all model categories. Music, food, refreshments, raffles, prizes and vendor displays. The event will take place at Brantford Nissan, 338 King George Road, Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

The Ontario folks hugely support ZCCR's car show each year and I am asking that you turn out to help show our appreciation by supporting their big event. We will be leaving early Saturday morning for Brantford, about a 2.5 hour drive.

The details:

* MEET Saturday morning August 20 @ 7:00am at the Brueggers Bagels in the Wegmans Plaza at the corners of Long Pond and Latta Roads in Greece. There will be time for coffee and refreshments.

* We will depart at 7:30am SHARP.

* Our route will take us out the Lake Ontario State Parkway to Rt. 18 to Lewiston where we will cross into Canada.

* Be SURE to bring your passport, passport card or enhanced driver license! REQUIRED to cross the border!

* Bring a chair and refreshments for the show if you wish.

* We will most likely be stopping for dinner in the Niagara Falls area for dinner should you wish to join in.

NEWZ Update

Hey All! Here is the latest from YOUR ZCCR:

* A hearty crew of members joined in for our annual Cruise To The Drive-In this weekend. It was a PERFECT summer night to enjoy a movie under the stars. "Cowboys and Aliens" was the film choice, a non-stop action flick (the Cowboys won, and NOT the Dallas variety!) A Z-Car tailgate party had a wide variety of goodies to share as we caught up on our summer doings and a great time was had by all. Some pics attached.

* UP NEXT: ZCCR's 11th Birthday Picnic on Saturday August 13. Once again this event will be held at Mike and Meg Krenzer's home on Manitou Road in Hilton. FREE to members and their families! Current members will be receiving a postcard via US Mail with directions and information. Food, beverage, swimming, games and some Z-Car surprises as well. Let's set a record member turnout this year, come and celebrate the 11 years of the most active Z club in the northeast!
