Ontario Z-Fest, it'll be H U G E !!! August 22nd to 24th

Fresh Oil The Ontario Z Car Owners Club full week-end of activity is somewhat modeled on our own bi-annual events which our Northern partners have come to appreciate and admire, so much so that they’ve added a charity element to their outing and they are really looking forward to our participation. Some ZCCR members will make the drive up on Friday for the full week-ends activities. others Saturday and/or Sunday for different segments

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: The arrival date is Fri., August 22 2008 and the departure date is Sun., August 24 2008. Ice-breaker meet-n'-greet Friday evening, we cruise Saturday of course, then there's the Saturday evening dinner at Louie’s West Side Grill in Burlington includes appetizers, main course (chicken, fish or beef), dessert, hot or cold beverage.   Total cost (including taxes, tip) will be between $25 - $30/person, alcohol separate. All followed up with a fabulous car show Sunday, then it's a roarin' ride home!

CRUIZE FACTS: Saturday's day cruise has been planned for a new concept, a two day OZC ZFest weekend. OZC tours in 2007, including the Finger Lakes Cruise with ZCCR were a lot of fun so they are organizing this tour as one of the three planned this year.  This is a full day event on twisty undulating secondary roads.  The roads are very windy with lots of elevation changes, perfect for Z-exercise.  There will be lots of driving, about 150 miles to be covered and magnificent picturesque scenery! Prizes will be handed out. Snake Rd. through Niagara Escarpment. Elora Gorge where there is white water rafting, and a cliff jumping spot (who wants to volunteer?). We’ll have lunch at Boston Pizza which is on a hill overlooking town of Orangeville.  We start at  the Southeast parking lot (on Plains Rd.) at intersection of Hwy#6 & Plains Rd. at 9am. with a full tank. Each car will be supplied with a trip itinerary and a route.

HOTEL DETAILS: There's a group booking at the Visitors Inn in Hamilton for the "Ontario Z Car Club" and are holding 20 non-smoking rooms with two queen size beds in each. The rate for one adult per room is $129 per night Canadian plus taxes.  Each additional adult is $10 extra (Maximum 4 per room).  As guests we need to individually make a guaranteed reservation with the hotel directly before July 22 2008. You can call (Toll free from Canada and USA):  1-800-387-4620. Website:  www.visitorsinn.com

RSVP: We need to know the numbers of people who will stay over Fri. night at the Visitor’s Inn for a Friday “Meet & Greet”, and Saturday night for the joint “OZC-ZCCR Dinner”, those staying over Saturday night + those coming only to the fabulous OZC ZFest Car Show at Christie Lake Conservation Park. If you are planning to attend any part of this week-end event, please contact Mike Noonan so this can all be best coordinated.

OZC is actively welcoming the members of ZCCR, and its friends and family to come out and accompany them through the whole event. Let’s make a big splash Gang, our OZC friends have been great partners and friends when we’ve needed them, now it’s our turn to reciprocate, head North and turn on the charm!

Hot Summer Show Succeed's with a Flare

Loose Gravel July 12th, 2008: What an outstanding day! Where to begin our story about the All Japanese Classic & Import Tuner car show ... the weather; how do we spell H O T - yes it was, and Mother Nature tossed in an ever so brief sun-shower just before trophy time so we all had the opportunity to put that dust-free shine to our vehicles for the final round of judging.

Our host, Hoselton Nissan, was most gracious and accommodating and their show parking space was perfect! As host for this event they came through big the way only a quality organization can!

The Merchant Street Smokehouse BBQ was out-of-sight, pulled pork and a side for $4-bucks, now that was mmmm, mmmm good deal!

Z-girls, yep we had 'em and boy did they hold up their end of our bargain, selling a Supra-large quantity of event raffle tickets assuring a great big 50/50 pot was available. And certainly all the sponsors who had come onboard gave us a big boost; they were many and most generous!

Volunteers, words can't sufficiently well express our thanks to Mike K. for launching ZCCR on the path to initiate an All-Japanese Vehicle gathering locally - his efforts pulling together an event  staff and executing the show was a labor of love and we ALL appreciate that ... ya did good Dad! As for the club’s worker-bee’s, well they were many in number and truly crucial in assuring our success.

Visitors from distant places, sure, we had them! Ontario Canada, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Maryland and many points in-between, it just wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t have brothers and sisters travel in to share stories, compete for trophies and break bread with. We had a heck of a time during the show itself, then after-hours we hit Champp's Sports Bar & Grill with a vengeance and closed out the day with great stories shared over brilliant food and even better desserts (just ask JT about his and Kim’s foot tall wedge of ice cream cake – O.M.G. that was unbelievable)!

Cars, did I mention the cars?  Whoa Baby, they were spectacular! Z’s sure, Datsun’s yes, exotic’s and tuner machines – absolutely! Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Infiniti were all represented and they were a most welcome addition which boosted the excitement of our annual car show event for all participants! These fellows were the big trophy winners at the end of the day:
Best in Show chosen by Hoselton Nissan: John Taddonio’s 1970 240Z
1st Place Z: Dave Lisiecki’s beautiful blue 240Z
2nd Place Z: Terry Weston’s 2003 350Z
3rd Place Z: Jimmy Kosowski and his 1979 280ZX
1st Place Non-Z: Carlos Torres’ crazy 1993 Honda Civic
2nd Place Non-Z: Kory Benson with his 1994 Nissan Hardbody pick-up
3rd Place Non-Z Al Scheuer’s 1965 Datsun 320 pick-up
Best Engine: Ed Serrano’s 1973 Datsun 240Z
Best Interior: Terry Weston and his 2003 350Z
Best Paint: Barry Brown’s 1971 Datsun Hot Wheels 510

All that said and done, you’ll recall that giving back to our community is a mission for ZCCR, its Board of Directors and the membership overall. Saturday we presented a check for $2,000.00 to be shared by our designated charities, The Wilmot Breast Cancer Center & The Strong Liver Transplant Center and there'll be more to follow those monies once we have our show numbers totalized. Both are organizations we’ve history with and both have helped members of our club who have been impacted by health issues most of us are lucky enough to avoid – they mean something special to us!

Three Cheers for the 1st Annual event which came off so smoothly, now let’s roll-up our sleeves and start work on next years event so we can trump all the numbers and grow this venue into a regional must-do date on everyone’s 2009 summer week-end calendar!

ZCCR All Japanese Classic & Import-Tuner Car Show

Fresh Oil We've got a winner on our hands here Gang, this is gonna be BIG! The All Japanese Classic & Import-Tuner Car Show we're sponsoring is generating a real buZZ around town! The cruise-night crowd is onboard, WRX-nuts are queued to drift-in, geeked Toyota fans are commiting, the Honda men are revved and the alphabet serial tuners are planning a strong move to upstage the field. GT3000 & GSX drivers, sure they're invited ... if you've got a Japanese OEM vehicle parked in your driveway it's welcome at the show, there're no age restrictions! G35 or a 350Z, SX-ZX maybe a hot little Datsun Z with a GM drive train, you say you’ve got a classic 4-door from the 70’s, an original SSS, a 4X4 Land Cruiser, Supra - no matter, bring 'em on in! Of course if you show up in a spankin' new GTR you've got instant fame & glory!

Toronto, Buffalo, Raaaaachester, Syracuse, Albany and all points between – they’re all checking-in, many beautiful cars will be front and center. Heard rumors Cleveland and Pittsburgh would be represented, and yes, Maryland is vying for the "car/driver traveling the furthest" designation with a Fairlady Z (JDM-RHD) heading our way!

Carbon fiber - sure … superchargers - absolutely, turbo’s – got’em, 100HP to 500+HP – Yeah Baby! Watts by the thousands, video in your dash, NOS all piped-up – we want it all … new-old-survivor-restored, bring it on! Some would say there's no local competitor that can match-up with ZEETOYZ radical 350Z that see's mega trick mods every year - it'll be interesting to learn if there's a Honda or Toyota driver that has made the commitment to their car that our Northern neighbor has ... (Psssst, we've seen a few at shows this year that will be outstanding competitors if they choose to throw down a challenge!

Ball Game Report from the Chair!

Dip RedWings  0,    Pawtucket RedSoxs  10, O U C H !!!
Thirty seven people attended the 3rd annual Red Wings outing for the ZCCR on a hot, sunny and very windy day at Frontier Stadium.

Our seats located in Section 210 of the Upper Boxs were perfect for viewing the game. Six people brought their Z's for general viewing in front of the Main Entrance. Many people stopped by to view the cars and to ask questions.

It was Joe Altobelli jersey handout Day, so everyone got a replica baseball jersey to take home (of very nice quality indeed!).

Other than the fact the Red Wings couldn't score any runs, and gave up six home runs to Pawtucket, it was a great game, and a great, fun day for all who attended.

A major Thunder Storm hit the stadium in the eight inning, and we all headed for our cars and the drive home. As usual, the Red Wings posted a ZCCR message across the Large scoreboard as beng one of the participating organizations for the days game. All in all, we all had a great day.

(Sidenote: The ball park food, lemonade and indeed the COLD adult beverages were outstanding.  That stadium has Major League concessionaires at the food court; red-dogs, white-dogs, burgers, philly cheesesteak, pulled pork, chicken ceasar wraps ... you name it they've got it - and man is it tasty. Let's vote for even more RedWingsBucks next year for all attendee's - we've gotta start early & eat often to squeeze in all the flavors)!

A great summer day, baseball, hot dogs and Z-Cars!

Must Exit Thanks to all of you who purchased tickets to this Sunday's June 29th ZCCR outing to Frontier Field to see the Rochester Red Wings take on the Pawtucket Red Sox.  We'll be 40 strong again this year and our ticket allotment sold out, should be a GREAT time!

Reserve early next year to get in on the fun. Just imagine the noise from the ZCCR grandstand when those PawSox come to the plate ... Boo, Hiss, Swing, Miss - we be RedWings fans through & through!

PARK in the VIP Reserved Lot right in front of the stadium off Morrie Silver Way.  The Red Wings have a list of ZCCR attendees, so pull up and give them your name.  You will be directed to a special parking area right near the main gate.  Parking is free.

MEET ZCCR's Mike Yendrzeski at the main gate to pick up your tickets and Diamond Dollars.  Mike will be waiting at the main gate from noon until the game starts.

A great summer day, baseball, hot dogs and Z-Cars!  It just doesn't get any better than that!
