By now you know we've grown our event from its origin as a Z-Car Bi-Annual affair to an every-year All Japanese marque extravaganZa and now we're expanding again ... join us in 2011 as the Z Car Club of Rochester presents "Tune it Up" the All-Import Car Show. Cars of European decent, cars from the Pacific Rim, vehicles from all over the world will be featured. Keep an eye open for next years event schedule ... you won't want to miss it!

Mad ZCCR Member Conquers Russia

Kangaroo
Always the Dapper-Dan, he's always a hop, skip & jump above us ... Find ZCCR member Ron Whitlock & his daughter high atop a Russian mountain range here! Then go on to see the rest of his photo's in our club gallery's! Ron, a ZCCR charter mamber, never misses an opportunity to fly the club banner while on-high, matter of fact, in total elevation achieved, the banner may have flown as high as the space shuttle in orbit by now as Ron has summited so many mountains worldwide!

Ron reports:"July 20th at 10:30am, we hit the summit of Elbrus in Russia, about 18,500', on a perfectly gorgeous day, no wind or snow and hardly a cloud anywhere. Twelve climbers including my daughter Terri, and 3 guides made it. One fellow had some problems and elected to watch us from base camp at 12,000'. Not as difficult as some of the other mts, but a very memorable time. Started at 6,500ft and hit the summit in 5 days with acclimatization climbs plus a rest day. Snow, rain or sleet every day except summit day. We all spent 3 days in St Petersburg prior to climb and 2 in Moscow after the climb. Visited lots of palaces from Peter the Great's days to Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin's tomb and the Basil Cathedral and even took in a ballet (Swan Lake) at the Russian National Ballet theater. So a very nice trip."

Welcome home Ron, we're glad to see detente is still working and you've not precipitated any major international incidents!

Current Events

Loose Gravel Hello All!  Here is the latest from YOUR club:

* Mother Nature didn't cooperate with us this past Saturday for our "Cruise to the Drive-In".  Severe thunderstorms, and nearby tornado warnings, crossed the area in late afternoon forcing a cancellation of the event.  We will look to reschedule this fun event in the near future, so stay tuned.

* We are in the peak of "Cruise Night" Season!  Virtually every night there is a local gathering of cool cars and their fans to partake in.  MONDAY is at Shaller's Restaurant on Edgemere Drive in Greece, TUESDAY has the Fairport Box Factory on the canal in the village AND Jim & Ralph's Restaurant on Elmgrove Rd. at Rt. 531 in Gates.  WEDNESDAY is the classic cruise night at the Log Cabin Restaurant on Rt. 31F in Walworth.  THURSDAY is a new (and big!) cruise at the Wegman's on Holt Rd. in Webster.  FRIDAY is the cruise at the Damascus Temple on Bay Rd. in Webster.  There are others to enjoy, check www.rodandpiston.com for a complete listing.  Cruise nights are a great excuse to take a ride in your Z, enjoy some food and ice cream and spend time with other car nuts.  If any of you decide to head out to one, send me an email and I will forward to the club.

* The books have been closed on our recent All Japanese Car Show Weekend and I am pleased to announce that we were able to donate $2500 EACH to our charities, The Rochester/Finger Lakes Eye & Tissue Donation Bank and the Rochester Breast Cancer Coalition.  Thanks to the hard work of our army of volunteers and the support of all of our participants, this is a 65% increase over last year.  Thanks to all of you for supporting our event and our charities.  Here's hoping we can do even better in 2011!

* Four hearty ZCCR members are heading to Nashville, TN this weekend to take in the car show at the ZCCA's International Z Convention celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Z-Car.  Logistics didn't permit us to show our own Zs, but myself, VP Mike Noonan, Activities Director Mike Yendrzeski and Promotions Director Mike Krenzer will be boarding the VP's Yukon ZUV for the ride.  We'll take lots of pictures, look for them on the website.

* NEXT UP is our annual Birthday Picnic on AUGUST 14.  Come out to help us celebrate ZCCR's 10th Birthday!  The event will be held at the beautiful home of Mike Krenzer and Meg Coon in Hilton.  Swimming (bring your suit!), games, food, beverage, music, ice cream and FUN FOR ALL!  FREE to current members and their families.  Watch for a postcard in the mail with complete information.

That's it for now!  Z you on the road!

Flying Low

Airport
40+ Z-Cars from Series One's to the latest generations, all working their way South from Rochester to Watkins Glen for some fun laps on the track ... July 11th, 2010 ... we were enjoying the 3rd and final day of the 3rd Annual ZCCR Jonathan Krenzer Memorial All Japanese Week-end activities on a sunny gorgeous brilliant New York State day!

Here's a "quick" video ... and if you think that was fun you should have seen this collection running laps on the famous Glen race track - joins us next year if you too want a piece of this action!

Many thanks to Frank Thomas, Membership Director, CTZCC for making the video! His is the beautiful blue Series One 240Z that resides just outside the view of his camera as he recorded us going by!

Drive-In-Movie-Mania this week-end !!!

Dip Hello All!  Here's the latest from YOUR club:

* We are closing the books on our recently concluded All Japanese Car Show Weekend and so far all feedback is positive.  It looks like we will be able to significantly increase our donation over last year to our two 2010 charities, The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester and the Rochester/Finger Lakes Eye and Tissue Bank.  Final numbers are still being crunched but it looks like at least a 50% donation increase over last year.  This is course attributable to the hard work of the army of ZCCR volunteers who made the event happen and those of you who participated.  You all know who you are, so on behalf of myself and the entire Board of Directors, THANK YOU!

* We had just over 150 cars of all Japanese makes and models represented at the car show!  From stock to wild, there was something for everyone's taste.  Look for a new twist in 2011 that should greatly increase that number!  ;-)

* The many out-of-town guests who came to participate in the weekend all are commenting on what a great time they had.  From the Friday Kickoff Party, to the Car Show, to the Watkins Glen experience, ALL had a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to coming back in 2011.  Let's hope that they bring more of their friends with them!

* Pictures from the All Japanese Car Show Weekend are now up on the website in a new photo gallery.  More are being added daily, so check back for the latest.

* The last note on the AJCS is a HUGE "THANK YOU" to all of our sponsors whose generosity enabled us to put on the entire weekend event AND make a significant contribution to our local charities.  All of the sponsors will be listed in the next club newsletter and some are linked on the website homepage.  I strongly encourage all ZCCR members to patronize our sponsors to thank them for supporting YOUR club.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* ATTENTION!  WE HAVE ADDED A NEW EVENT TO THE CALENDAR!  THIS SATURDAY, JULY 24, we are CRUISIN' TO THE DRIVE-IN!  Yes, do to popular demand, we are reinstating our yearly trek to the VINTAGE DRIVE-IN in Avon, NY.  The Vintage Drive-In has three screens that show two first-run movies each. There will be a HUGE ZCCR TAILGATE PARTY before the first movie! That's right, bring your favorite snack or dish to pass and a beverage to set up shop in front of our Zs to have some fun before the movie starts!  The details:
* MEET AT THE JEFFERSON PLAZA, 1100 Jefferson Rd. in Henrietta (right next to Rt. 390) at 6:45pm this Saturday July 24.  Meet up front near the "Five Guys" restaurant.  We will depart for the Drive-In by 7:00pm.
* BRING your own lawn chairs, a dish to pass, snacks and beverage, if you wish.
*
Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children aged 4-10.  There is also a $5 per car "food permit" fee (still better than buying drive-in food!).
* First movie starts at approx 9:00pm, second shortly after 11.  We will "vote" on which movies to see before departure.  Of course you are free to see whatever movies you wish, but why wouldn't you WANT TO PARK WITH THE REST OF THE Zs???  ;-)
* THIS EVENT IS WEATHER PERMITTING of course.  No fun watching outdoor movies in the rain!
* Shoot me an email if you are attending so we know to look for you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's July.  It's HOT. Your Z is begging to be driven.

Charity Week-End Recap

Loose Gravel Good Day All!  Here is the latest from YOUR club:

* WOW!  WHAT A GREAT TIME was had by all this past weekend at ZCCR's All Japanese Car Show Weekend.  We had participants from PA, ON, NY, CT, AZ, MD and NJ take in the events.  From the Friday evening kickoff party to the Saturday car show to the Saturday evening dinner dance to the Sunday road rally to Watkins Glen for Laps and Lunch, a STUPENDOUS time was had by all.  The event is growing each year and quickly becoming a regional favorite. Thanks to the Wesbter-Fairport Elks Lodge for hosting the car show, we hope to make their venue our show site for years to come.  A complete recap of the event will be in the next edition of ZCCR NEWZ and a photo gallery will be up on the website soon.

An event of this magnitude couldn't happen without the generosity of our many sponsors.  Each and every one of them will be listed in our club newsletter.  I would encourage you to support their business and take the time to THANK THEM for supporting ZCCR and our charities.

I also want to take the time here to thank some hard-working individuals who all teamed up to make this a wonderful event:  Mike Krenzer, Meg Coon, Mike Noonan, Mike & Debbie Yendrzeski, Scott & Jan Kozlowski, Bob Anderson, Bob Mooney, Sam Hartley, Frank & Pat McGinley,, Brian & Judy Rapp, Frank Butera, Gary Guagliardo, Chas Campbell, Allan Robbins, Shawn Pritchard, Barry Brown, Tom Bork, Rick & Kathy Morgan, Steve Yendrzeski and many more others who donated their time and talents.  You all were fantastic, the event couldn't have happened without you.  Z people ARE the BEST!

* TONIGHT we are heading out to the Monday Night Cruise at Schallers Drive-In located at 965 Edgemere Drive in Greece.  The usual music, great food, great ice cream and some of the coolest rides you can see on a hot summer night.  Be there by 6:15 for prime parking.

* NEXT UP on your "local" ZCCR activities calendar is our 11th Annual Anniversary Picnic on Saturday August 14.  Once again ZCCR's Mike Krenzer and Meg Coon have offered to host the event at their spacious home in Hilton.  FREE to members!  Food, music, games, swimming and that one-of-a-kind ZCCR hospitality!  Watch your emails and for a postcard in the mail for complete details.

*ON SATURDAY AUGUST 21 we will be heading north of the border to participate in "Z FEST" hosted by our good friends in the Ontario Z Association.  This is a great Z only car show that's a ton-of-fun with music, food, awards, raffles and more.  Watch your emails for details.

* There are also two other events not on our "official" event schedule that many ZCCR folks may be participating in: Spencerport Canal Days Car Show- Saturday July 24  and The International Z Convention in Nashville, TN. July 28-Aug. 1 (www.zcon2010.com).  Search the web for more information.

Stay tuned, stay informed, PARTICIPATE!
